On December 28, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, together with Tesla’s AI director, tested a Robotaxi without a safety driver in Austin, Texas. The test covered real traffic conditions and complex intersection maneuvers, with the vehicle operating smoothly.
Musk described the ride as a “perfect drive,” while the AI director shared a first-person view video from the back seat, calling the experience “amazing.” Musk also confirmed that Austin is conducting road tests with “driverless, passengerless” vehicles.
Earlier, Musk announced at an event that safety drivers will be removed from vehicles within three weeks, moving toward “full self-driving,” adding: “The issues with unsupervised driving are now largely solved.”
