岭南大学 recently conferred honorary doctoral degrees upon six distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements and significant contributions to society. Among them, 甄子丹 was the only representative from the entertainment industry, receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humanities.
In its citation, the university praised Donnie Yen as an internationally influential star who has promoted traditional Chinese culture and brought the aesthetics of martial arts cinema to a global audience. The honor marked a major milestone in his life, and he chose to celebrate it in the company of family and close friends.
The award ceremony became a rare four-generation family gathering. Donnie Yen attended with his wife, 汪诗诗, their daughter, and several members of his wife’s extended family, including her mother and over-90-year-old grandmother. Also present were her sister, 汪圆圆, and cousin Zhan Qiqing, highlighting the family’s strong sense of ritual and togetherness.
A notable guest at the event was 蔡李惠莉, wife of Hong Kong toy magnate Cai Zhiming. Though not a direct relative of Donnie Yen, she is the mother-in-law of Wang Yuanyuan and attended as a respected member of the extended family circle.
Dressed in a striking red coat, Cai Li Huili drew attention despite not being the central figure. In group photos, she was positioned prominently among senior family members, while Wang Yuanyuan stood slightly to the side—an arrangement widely praised online for its grace and consideration.
Beyond family, Donnie Yen also invited numerous prominent figures from business and media circles. The gathering was widely described as grand and celebratory. Following the ceremony, he hosted a private dinner to mark the occasion with loved ones.
Other recipients of honorary doctorates from Lingnan University included entrepreneur 李宁, businessman 霍震寰, and Hong Kong Jockey Club chairman 廖长江. Among them, Donnie Yen’s celebration stood out for its scale—an approach many felt was fitting for such a personal and meaningful achievement.
