On May 14 local time, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Putin’s proposal for negotiations with Ukraine remains urgent. He announced that the Russian delegation will be waiting for the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul on May 15.
Peskov also said that the list of Russian representatives participating in the talks will be released after President Putin gives the order.
Earlier, in the early hours of May 11, President Putin issued a statement proposing that Russia and Ukraine resume direct negotiations unconditionally in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 15. He mentioned that the parties might reach a new ceasefire agreement during the talks.
In response, Ukrainian President Zelensky posted on social media on the evening of May 11, saying that Ukraine expects to begin implementing a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire starting May 12, which would provide a foundation for diplomatic efforts. He added that he will be “waiting” for Putin in Turkey on May 15.
