In a heartbreaking incident at a Hong Kong horse racing event in June 2025, a 5-year-old Australian thoroughbred named "Beauty Eternal" suffered a catastrophic leg injury just meters before the finish line. Despite its impressive record, the horse was euthanized on-site due to the severity of its injuries, drawing sorrow and shock from spectators.
Ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman, Beauty Eternal was leading the race when it suddenly collapsed. The jockey was thrown off but fortunately avoided serious injury. Two trailing horses crashed into the fallen horse, causing a chaotic scene.
Veterinarians confirmed a severe fracture in Beauty Eternal’s left front fetlock — a critical injury that cannot be effectively treated due to the horse’s unique physiology. As horses must remain standing for respiration and cannot endure extended recovery, euthanasia is often the most humane option.
