Crypto Mania Returns: Bitcoin Hits $120K, Triggers 100,000 Liquidations
The crypto market roared back on July 14 as Bitcoin broke above $120,000 for the first time ever. According to data from Coinglass, more than 100,000 traders were liquidated in the past 24 hours, highlighting the intensity of the rally.
The surge wasn’t limited to Bitcoin—Ethereum, Dogecoin, and SUI also posted strong gains. SUI soared over 12% in a day, while Ethereum and Dogecoin each gained around 3%, signaling renewed risk appetite.
Institutional Buying and Policy Tailwinds Fuel the Rally
Jeffrey Ding, Chief Analyst at HashKey Group, attributes the rally to multiple converging factors. After a period of consolidation, the market had built strong upward momentum, supported by a high level of coin lock-in by long-term holders. Selling pressure was low, creating a solid foundation for Bitcoin’s climb.
Additionally, global crypto regulatory clarity has improved, boosting investor confidence. Ding pointed to the recently signed “Big and Beautiful” Act in the U.S. and new investment moves from Trump-linked firms as key signals driving institutional inflows.
On July 8, Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) filed with the SEC to launch a new Bitcoin ETF, further fueling market excitement.
Target: $200K by Year-End? Institutions Stay Bullish
Options data show a significant skew toward bullish positions, with more call options than puts. Adam Guren, CIO at Hunting Hill Global Capital, said Bitcoin is benefiting from its “digital gold” narrative, especially as the Fed nears a potential rate cut cycle. This time, he noted, demand is structural and long-term in nature.
Geoff Kendrick, Head of Digital Asset Research at Standard Chartered, echoed this optimism, forecasting Bitcoin could reach $135K in Q3 and surge to $200K by year-end.
Caution Ahead: Watch for Pullbacks and Macro Risks
Despite the rally, Ding warned against irrational exuberance. “A historical high doesn’t immediately create a peak—consolidation takes time,” he said, advising patience and vigilance.
He also highlighted potential macro risks: geopolitical tensions (e.g., Iran-Israel), financial instability (e.g., inflation or defaults), and political shocks in the U.S. All could disrupt market sentiment and spark volatility.
Conclusion: The Bull Is Back—or Is This the Calm Before the Storm?
Bitcoin’s breakout past $120K has reignited enthusiasm across crypto markets. But as investors chase record highs, it’s crucial to remember that volatility and uncertainty remain ever-present. Each peak is not a finish line—but a new test on the road to $200K.
