On December 2, Chinese hurdler Wu Yanni attended her sister’s wedding after finishing her season following the National Games. Returning to Chengdu during her break, she was invited to give a speech on stage. While reading from her prepared notes on her phone, she suddenly broke down in tears, overwhelmed by emotion and the thought of her sister getting married.
Wu began her speech by saying, “I arrived in Chengdu at dawn today. I felt both nervous and happy, because our family’s precious girl is entering a new chapter… and my mind is full of all the moments we’ve shared.” Before she could continue, she became too emotional to speak. The bride gently wiped her tears, and the groom handed over tissues to help.
After regaining her composure, Wu continued: “I keep thinking about all the times we went out together. I can’t believe you’re getting married now. Being here to witness your happiness makes me happy as well.” She cried again and embraced her sister tightly.
Notably, Wu appeared without heavy makeup and dressed very simply, which many netizens praised as considerate toward the bride.
Earlier at the National Games, Wu missed out on the gold medal and shed tears during the medal ceremony. The 28-year-old later stated that she plans to continue competing for another five to six years.
