At the 2025 Chinese National Figure Skating Championships, 14-year-old Jin Shuxian captivated the audience in the ladies’ free skate, performing to the beautiful melody of The Butterfly Lovers. Delivering her most flawless performance of the season, she scored 139.77 points in the free skate and 69.08 in the short program, totaling 208.85 points and successfully defending her title. Although this event served as part of the selection for the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics, Jin is too young to qualify at just 14.
Zhang Ruiyang took second place with 197.58 points, while Zhu Yi finished third with 193.48 points. Jin Shuxian led both the short program and free skate, the only skater to surpass 200 points, showcasing her clear dominance over the field.
This season, Jin switched her free skate music from Arirang to The Butterfly Lovers, with significantly upgraded choreography. Despite minor fluctuations in late-season competitions, she executed a flawless final performance with light and precise jumps, combining technical difficulty with expressive artistry at the championship’s top level. Post-competition, she modestly commented: “Overall, I’m satisfied. This was my best performance at the end of the season.”
Jin first made headlines in 2022, winning the national senior title at just 11 years old, and claimed gold again at the 14th National Winter Games in 2024. Now consistently scoring above 200 points, she is set to shine on the international stage. She stated: “My current goal is to compete internationally and seize more opportunities to win honors.”
The young prodigy is growing rapidly, with improved physical development enhancing her jumps. Her potential is immense, and we look forward to seeing Jin break 210, even 220 points in the future, continuing to write a new chapter for Chinese figure skating.
