OpenAI announced that, one year after unveiling the “Stargate” project, it plans to expand U.S. AI infrastructure to 10 GW by 2029. Current capacity planning already exceeds half of the target, with the first sites in Texas already training and providing services. Additional Stargate sites are under development in Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
OpenAI stated that it will cover all energy costs for the Stargate community programs, ensuring that operations will not drive up local electricity prices. Each community and region has unique energy demands and grid conditions, and OpenAI commits to customizing solutions accordingly.
