Building AI glasses isn’t that hard—if you’re in China. The Pearl River Delta can turn orders into prototypes in days, while the Yangtze River Delta concentrates world-class waveguide optics and Micro LED display capabilities. A Bank of America report even suggests that over 80% of AI-glasses supply-chain companies are based in China, meaning this “next computing interface” is increasingly shaped by Chinese manufacturing.

China’s advantage is end-to-end. Key steps—camera modules, optical coating, mechanical parts, final assembly—are densely clustered, making sourcing and testing locally fast and efficient. The two highest-value, most complex modules are the chip and the optics stack (engine + waveguide + display), together accounting for well over 70% of total cost. Chinese players are pushing forward in both: optics breakthroughs (waveguides, compact Micro LED light engines) and a growing chip ecosystem across tiers, amplified by smartphone-era precision manufacturing from giants like Goertek, Luxshare, and Lens.

Just as important, China has moved from contract manufacturing to innovation leadership. While Silicon Valley pioneered smart glasses concepts in the 2010s, Chinese firms spent the following decade investing, learning, acquiring, and iterating—eventually capturing core technologies and building a vertically integrated ecosystem.

Now the brand layer is catching up too. With component costs falling and iteration accelerating, Chinese AI-glasses makers are launching faster, lighter, and more feature-rich products—turning events like CES 2026 into a showcase. In short: China isn’t only the factory behind AI glasses anymore; it’s becoming the pace-setter.
