(Hollywood, April 18) The iconic Top Gun franchise, led by Tom Cruise, is officially returning with a third installment. Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon that Top Gun 3 is now in development, bringing “Maverick” back to the big screen.
Tom Cruise is set to reprise his role and reunite with producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The screenplay is being written by Ehren Kruger, who also worked on Top Gun: Maverick. While plot details remain under wraps, the story is expected to continue from the previous film.
The potential returning cast includes Glen Powell, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, and Charles Parnell.
Originally released in 1986, Top Gun became a global phenomenon, following elite naval aviators and cementing Maverick as one of cinema’s most iconic characters. Cruise’s aviator sunglasses and flight jacket look became instantly recognizable cultural symbols.
Its long-awaited sequel, Top Gun: Maverick (2022), grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide and was praised by Steven Spielberg as a film that helped revive theaters after the pandemic.
With Top Gun 3 officially underway, the beloved franchise is set to soar once again, promising another wave of excitement for audiences worldwide.
