According to Reuters, on August 22 local time, Jeffrey Cruz, Director of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), was removed from his post. The decision quickly triggered strong criticism from congressional Democrats.
Senator Mark Warner, Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that the move was “yet another example of the Trump administration treating intelligence as a loyalty test rather than a safeguard for national security.” He warned that such actions further exacerbate the risks of politicization within the US intelligence system.
As of now, Cruz has not publicly commented on his dismissal.
