Apple has once again pushed the boundaries of “slim and light.”
At its September 10 launch event, Apple officially unveiled the iPhone Air — the thinnest iPhone to date, with a body measuring only 5.6mm, about the thickness of three stacked coins.
More than just a phone, it is almost a “battery wrapped around a chip.” Apple redesigned and customized its chip, camera, and modules to fit into the ultra-slim form factor, leaving most of the space to house the battery.
The iPhone Air comes in four colors and, according to Apple, surpasses its strict bend-resistance standards, claiming to be more durable than any previous iPhone.
Why make the “thinnest iPhone”?
In today’s market where smartphones are increasingly homogeneous, Apple clearly aims to break the mold with extreme thinness. Industry observers believe the iPhone Air is not just a sales play, but a testbed for Apple’s future foldable iPhones. Fitting large batteries and high performance into limited space is a critical challenge for foldable devices, and iPhone Air is already paving the way.
