It’s almost impossible to believe that the same Google mocked worldwide for Bard’s failure in 2023 is now dominating the AI spotlight again.

On November 18, Google released Gemini 3, a model that outperformed even larger competitors. Built on Gemini 3 Pro, Nano Banana Pro continues Google's leadership in AI image generation—ratcheting up pressure on OpenAI.

More importantly, Gemini 3 has reversed the “Google is falling behind” narrative.
Google’s in-house TPU is now seen as the biggest threat to NVIDIA’s compute monopoly. Meta is rumored to be evaluating large-scale TPU purchases, contributing to NVIDIA’s 7% stock drop. Anthropic ordered another million TPUs this month, while Ilya Sutskever’s new startup depends on TPU compute.

This shift signals one thing:

AI is no longer a model race—it’s a systems race.

Google’s long-criticized ecosystem—Gemini + TPU + Google Cloud + Android + Search—has suddenly become an overwhelming force. Analysts call Google a “giant awakening.”

■ From the humiliation of Bard → to system-level resurgence

Google did not change direction after Bard’s disastrous debut.
It simply accelerated its AI-first, full-stack strategy:

  • internal chip (TPU)
  • global data centers
  • self-trained models
  • end-side + cloud AI applications
  • the world’s largest multi-modal data sources (Search, YouTube, Photos)

The problem was never direction—only the length of the road.

■ The true turning point: DeepMind + Brain merger

In April 2023, Google unified its strongest research forces—DeepMind and Google Brain—under one leadership.
This removed years of internal conflict and created:

one architecture, one roadmap, one model family (Nano → Flash → Pro).

■ TPU becomes a strategic weapon

From TPU v5 to v7 (Ironwood), Google accelerated development dramatically.
Google Cloud is now riding the TPU wave with massive commercial traction.

■ Product ecosystem revives

  • Search gets AI Mode
  • Pixel becomes the flagship on-device AI showcase
  • NotebookLM reinvents personal knowledge management
  • Nano Banana pushes image generation into new territory

Ten years of "slow but steady infrastructure building" finally converged into a scalable system.

Keep a little curiosity for the next story.
