(Hong Kong, Dec 30) The China–Hong Kong co-produced web drama Guardians of Integrity—starring Jordan Chan, Aarif Lee, Han Xue and Simon Yam—is currently airing. In the series, Tavia Yeung plays the mother of the Emergency Unit officer Leung Yuen-ting (played by Tong Ka-man). Worried that her daughter may get hurt on missions, she repeatedly urges her to transfer to a safer desk job, but Yuen-ting insists on doing what she loves.
In the latest episode, Chiu Siu-tong (Simon Yam) is hospitalized after being injured during an operation. Yuen-ting prepares soup and medicated liniment to visit him, only to run into her mother at home on the way out. Seeing what her daughter is carrying, the mother immediately presses her for the truth, asking her to be honest so she “won’t worry.”
Yuen-ting tries to reassure her, saying injuries are unavoidable in their line of work and minor wounds are “no big deal.” Her mother, however, panics—pointing out that officers have been getting injured in recent incidents and calling the Emergency Unit far too dangerous. When she tries once again to “arrange” a transfer for her daughter, Yuen-ting refuses firmly, insisting she will not take leave, will not seek treatment, and will not quit the force. The argument escalates as the mother demands to know why her daughter always goes against her, while Yuen-ting pleads for the freedom to choose her own path. The scene ends with the pair parting on bad terms yet again.
Many viewers commented that although Yeung’s screen time in Guardians of Integrity is limited, her portrayal of a tense, protective mother is highly convincing—so much so that it helps her break away from her memorable “revenge-at-all-costs” persona as Hung Sheung-sin in Come Home Love: Happy Courier. Audiences also noted her strikingly different look this time: a down-to-earth “housewife” style with a low bun, slightly messy hair, and simple clothing—offering a fresh side of the actress.
