The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has officially appointed Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban as the brand ambassador for “Amazing Thailand.” Marking the occasion, Parisian fashion house BALMAIN unveiled a bespoke gown inspired by its archives, paying tribute to the brand’s deep connection with Thailand spanning more than half a century. The look made its official debut at a special event in Bangkok on January 28.
As a globally recognized member of BLACKPINK—also an independent artist and actress—Lisa is widely regarded as one of today’s most culturally influential figures. Deeply connected to her roots, she has consistently promoted Thailand’s culture, creativity, and craftsmanship on the international stage. This appointment not only acknowledges her global impact, but also reinforces her ongoing commitment to sharing Thai culture with pride.
The custom gown draws inspiration from Pierre Balmain’s iconic 1960 Spring/Summer haute couture design, the “Nuit à Londres” (London Night) evening dress—originally recreated for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. Over more than two decades, Pierre Balmain designed numerous significant looks for Queen Sirikit, forging a distinctive historical bond between BALMAIN and the Thai royal family—an enduring link often associated with cultural diplomacy between Thailand and France.
Reimagined for Lisa, the new version features a structured corseted silhouette with a trailing train, shaped through precise couture-level sculpting and pattern work. Traditional Thai textiles are thoughtfully incorporated into the bodice and sleeve detailing, while a wrap-style skirt in duchess satin creates a sleek yet sculptural line. A tonal shawl completes the ensemble for a refined finish.
The color palette was also specially considered for the moment: Thai brocade woven in yellow, rose gold, and gold is paired with yellow-green Thai silk, echoing the ceremony’s sense of dignity and celebration.
Altogether, the piece symbolizes a dialogue between BALMAIN’s couture heritage and Thailand’s rich textile tradition. Timed with the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and France, and embodied by a Thai icon of Lisa’s stature, it becomes a vivid meeting point of cross-cultural exchange, exceptional craftsmanship, and contemporary expression.
