After watching Honey Needle, one haunting question remains: how desperate must someone be to see destruction as the only way out?

The character Zhi Ning, portrayed by Yuan Quan, is not inherently evil. She is a woman shaped by long-term emotional neglect, slowly losing herself in the need to be seen. When even the slightest attention from Kou Yi appears, she mistakes it for love.

But what she truly falls for is not the person—it is the feeling of finally being loved.

What makes the story chilling is that she never loses her rationality. Instead, her logic becomes the very tool that drives her toward irreversible choices. The tragedy lies not in loving the wrong person, but in never learning to value herself.

In contrast, Jane Eyre chooses self-respect over love. Where Jane walks away to preserve herself, Zhi Ning sacrifices herself for the illusion of being loved.

Ultimately, the film delivers a painful truth: when a person defines their entire worth through love from others, they risk losing themselves completely.

Keep a little curiosity for the next story.
