Sichuan Sweep Shanghai, Eye Third WCBA Title with Dominant Playoff Run
In the 2025–26 WCBA quarterfinals, Sichuan Women’s Basketball Team delivered a commanding performance, sweeping Shanghai Women’s Basketball Team 2-0 to advance to the semifinals and move one step closer to a third championship in franchise history.
Despite the absence of key stars Han Xu and Li Meng, Sichuan showcased elite depth and cohesion, powered by a strong domestic core and a trio of top-tier international players.
The series was one-sided: a 105-75 blowout in Game 1 followed by a 104-91 victory in Game 2 sealed Shanghai’s exit.
Wang Siyu played a pivotal role as both player and assistant coach, anchoring the team’s offense and defense. Her consistent performances and leadership remain crucial to Sichuan’s title ambitions.
The team’s dominance is further reinforced by its WNBA-caliber trio:
- Liz Cambage controlling the paint
- Natasha Howard providing elite defense and experience
- Arike Ogunbowale leading scoring and pace
Sichuan’s domestic lineup also adds stability, with strong contributions across positions, creating a balanced and versatile system.
After finishing third in the regular season (17-5), Sichuan has elevated its performance in the playoffs, showing improved execution and resilience.
With defending champions Guangdong Women’s Basketball Team eliminated early, Sichuan now stands as the title favorite. They will face Jiangsu Women’s Basketball Team in the semifinals—a team known for teamwork and ball movement.
Given their superior depth, star power, and playoff experience, Sichuan remains the team to beat. If they maintain control in the paint and sustain their tempo, a return to the WCBA summit looks increasingly likely.
